ExeAccess and Exeter Community Transport Association
Chair – Janet Gale
My career background is working as a Personal Assistant to the Traffic Superintendent of the buses here in Exeter, having studied in London for many RSA exams including bus law. I left in 1977 to have my daughter.
Later I went on to work as a Personal Secretary to the Production Manager at the Northcott Theatre where I spent 21 happy years. Very long hours for very little pay but it never felt like work.
My long working hours set me up to be Vice Chair of the ExeAccess Board, so hard work does not faze me. I love working alongside this great team that makes ExeAccess so great.

Until Covid I was a volunteer in St Petrock’s centre for the homeless.

Janet Newton – Trustee
I was brought up in the hospitality trade and was at ease with people from a young age.
After school I attended secretarial college and worked in various admin jobs till I married and brought up a family, I was captain of a skittles and darts team until a serious car accident left me with back problems. When my children were older I took a refresher course in admin and was lucky enough to obtain a position with Shopmobility now ExeAccess when I enjoyed 17 mostly happy years. Owing to my work experience and being a service user myself I can bring an insight and knowledge to help ExeAccess continue to provide the services that the elderly and disabled need.
Barbara Denning – Trustee
Since the 1970’s I have been active within the communities I have lived in. Promoting equal rights for all, in particular for those at work who have specific needs to enable them to perform their duties, mainly those with disabilities. This was in my role as a trade union official.
Since retiring, I have sat on the Executive Committee of Exeter City Council, as an elected Labour Councillor. My role was within housing, so I was able to help those who required adaptations in their homes to help give a better quality of life.
With my past experience, I hope that my knowledge and beliefs will help ExeAccess to fulfil their aims & objectives.
